Gazing into the current of our extended relationships through an internet survey about Tet. Where do we fall apart? How do we truly cultivate a sense of belonging?

Data collection.

Hieu initiated the project just before Tet. We discussed its direction over Notion and released the survey through this post.

Data analysis.

From 63 unique entries, I gazed into emerging patterns, keywords, and tones of voice, thus, creating 3 additional categories that will be immensely important for the data analysis later on:

  • category of pressure: relationship, [not meeting] expectation,  money, cleaning [tradition], not being accepted, other
  • source of pressure: self or other
  • expectation type: money, marriage, life choices, sexuality

My initial focus was purely to understand the kind of pressure that people faced in family holidays. I did not expect the main culprit to be the familial relationship itself! Which was directly related to my field of research. The 4th additional category, thus, was added:

  • conflict resolution style: fight or flight

Theories synthesis.

Direction proposed (1).

A lot to be updated.

Onward.

We want to collect more data entries. Perhaps around 300 responses to find a more solidified pattern.
